Easy steps to make simple syrup in home

Simple syrup is easy to make at home. You can mix this syrup with your cocktails and some juices too. These syrup are healthy and tasty if you make this in the home. Sugar and water are the main ingredients for making the simple syrup. Simple syrup may be either flavored or sugar syrup.

  • It can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 weeks.
  • Flavored syrup can be stored for 1-2 weeks.

  1. Take equal amount of sugar and water in a saucepan or vessel.
  2. Stir the water still sugar gets dissolved.
  3. If the solution is clear remove the vessel from the stove.

Note: The final amount of syrup will be lesser than the adding amount.

How to make flavored sugar syrup

  4. Close the jar with a lid and keep aside while it is steeping.

Note

  • You can make different flavor by pouring syrup in different ingredients.
  • Remove the ingredients once the syrup is cool, because it will reduce the syrup’s life span.

Preparing time: 5 minutes

Makes about 1 ½ cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bunch mint leaves

Method

  1. Heat sugar and water in a vessel or saucepan until the sugar gets dissolved.
  2. Pour the sugar solution in a container and add crushed mint leaves.
  3. Close and keep in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.
  4. Remove the mint and use it for your cocktail.
  5. It can be used for 3 weeks.

The blackberry and dried lavender syrup is a perfect match in gimlet and French 75. The founder of this recipe was Chad Solomon and Christy Pope.

Preparing time: 15 minutes

Makes about 1 ½ cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon of dried lavender or ½ cup fresh lavender buds

Method

  1. Boil water with all the ingredients in high flame.
  2. Cook the ingredients in medium-heat for about 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the ingredients and pour in a bottle.
  4. Refrigerate before using.

Black pepper syrup

The black pepper syrup combines with vodka which makes your mouth lingering and gives you the combination of bitter, sweet and earthy feeling.

Ingredients: Makes about 1 ½ cups

  • ¼ cup crushed black peppercorns.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Method

  1. Boil sugar, water, and peppercorn in a pot.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Once the sugar gets dissolved, leave it to cool.
  4. Remove the ingredients and store in a bottle.

Ingredients for a cocktail

  • 1 ½ ounce black pepper syrup
  • 1 ½ ounce vodka
  • 3-ounce fresh grapefruit juice

Method

  1. Mix syrup, vodka and grape juice in a cocktail shaker (add ice if necessary).

  • 1 ½ tablespoon fennel seeds

Method

  1. Add ground fennel seeds, sugar and water in a saucepan and boil over medium heat.
  2. Stir occasionally.
  3. Cook the ingredients still the syrup turns thicker.
  4. Strain the ingredients and cool it in the room temperature.
  5. It can be used for 1 month in an airtight container.

Ingredients: For Spritz

  • 2-ounce unfiltered apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 10-ounce seltzer or soda
  • Apple slices and fennel fronds (if needed)

Method

  1. Mix 2 tablespoon of Fennel syrup along with apple juice, and lemon juice in a glass tumbler.
  2. Finally, pour seltzer and decorate with an apple slice and fennel fronds.

Cinnamon Simple Syrup

This syrup is not only combined with a cocktail, it also tastes goods with pancakes and coffee.

Makes about 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 sticks cinnamon sticks
  • ½ vanilla bean split and seeds scraped

Method

  1. Boil sugar, cinnamon sticks, vanilla bean, and seeds altogether with water in a saucepan.
  2. Cook until the sugar gets dissolved.
  3. Cool and strain the ingredients.
  4. Refrigerate up to 3 months.

This syrup is a combo of tequila and cardamom which taste good with lime and grapefruit juice.

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients: cardamom simple syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ sugar
  • 25 crushed green cardamom
  • Cheesecloth and kitchen twine for steeping

Method

  1. Wrap cardamom in cheesecloth and tie in a kitchen twine.
  2. Boil sugar and water in the medium heat.
  3. Stir till the sugar gets dissolved.
  4. Pour the syrup into a jar and leave the packet.
  5. Leave it for overnight.
  6. Refrigerate until you use it.

Ingredients: Cocktail

  • 2-ounce Suerte Blanco Tequila
  • ¾ ounce cardamom syrup
  • ¾ ounce fresh grapefruit juice
  • ¼ ounce fresh lime juice

Method

  1. Combine tequila, simple syrup and juices in an ice-filled shaker.
  2. Shake well and pour into a glass tumbler to enjoy the cocktail.

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

  3. Cook the chiles in medium heat about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Turn off the stove and allow it to cool.

Lemongrass syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 stalks of fresh lemongrass

Method

  1. Remove outer layer of lemongrass stalks and cut into pieces.
  2. Add all the ingredients in a saucepan.
  3. Boil the lemongrass for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Remove from the stove and allow it to cool.
  5. Store in a bottle and refrigerate until the use.

Demerara syrup or Turbinado syrup

Demerara syrup

Turbinado sugar or demerara is made from sugar cane. Turbinado or demerara sugar has a different flavor and good for cocktail recipes. It gives extra color and sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup turbinado/ demerara sugar

Method

  1. Add the ingredients in the saucepan.
  2. Stir until the sugar gets dissolved.
  3. Turn off the stove and leave it to cool.
  4. Store and use it for 2 weeks.

Rich simple syrup

A Rich simple syrup is also as simple syrup but the quality of sugar gets double in the rich syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of sugar

Method

  1. Add sugar and water in a small vessel.
  2. Boil it over medium heat until the sugar gets dissolved.
  3. Bring it to room temperature.
  4. Cover and refrigerator.
  5. Use it for 2 weeks.
